Motor starter panels are designed and manufactured to start shipboard motors with the most suitable method — Direct-On-Line (DOL), star-delta, soft start or variable frequency drive (VFD) — in compliance with classification society rules and customer technical specifications.
When multiple motor starters are physically grouped together in a single assembly, a Motor Control Center (MCC) is formed.
Advantages of MCCs on ships
- Centralised control
- Space-saving design
- Ease of maintenance
- Optimisation of the ship's electrical system
CAN MAKINA ELEKTRIK A.Ş. provides custom design and manufacturing of both motor starter panels and motor control centers, fully tailored to ship-specific requirements and customer expectations.
Choosing the right starting method
Direct-on-line starting is simple but causes high inrush currents and voltage dips; star-delta and soft starters reduce them; frequency drives eliminate them and save energy in operation. For each consumer we select the method that protects the ship's network, the motor and the driven machinery while keeping cost and space in balance.
Safety for operators and maintenance staff
Withdrawable or fixed modules, clear segregation, interlocks and local/remote selection allow crews to isolate and service individual consumers safely while the rest of the MCC remains in operation.
Ready for monitoring
Motor starters can be connected to the vessel's automation system to report status, running hours and alarms — supporting condition-based maintenance and helping the crew detect problems early.
